Amplifhy Rotterdam

Supporting the European hydrogen economy

Fueling the transition to the energy solutions of tomorrow

Hydrogen will play a crucial role in the future energy mix. Hydrogen is versatile, can store and transport renewable intermittent energy from sources such as solar and wind over distance and time and has the potential to decarbonize even hard-to-abate sectors. A mix of local hydrogen production and hydrogen imports from a diversified portfolio of countries around the globe will enable Europe to make the transition to a clean and secure energy economy.

To support large scale hydrogen imports, VTTI plans to build a world scale ammonia import terminal and ammonia cracker in the Port of Rotterdam. Project Amplifhy Rotterdam is expected to provide clean hydrogen to various European sectors and industries as early as 2026, supporting the “Fit for 55” legislative package and REPowerEU initiative.

VTTI is one of the world’s leading storage providers for energy and other essential products like chemicals. Located at major shipping crossroads and supply gateways, VTTI provides over 10 million cubic metres of storage capacity across five continents. VTTI focusses on developing and implementing sustainable solutions, fuelling the transition to the energy needs of tomorrow and building the emerging renewable value chain.
